Galas Mouthpiece Comparison (Experiment #60)
As part of our ongoing program of continuous improvement, Dr. Foxx asks Galas to try out a number of mouthpieces for comfort, air seal, and other factors. Our standard spirometer mouthpiece is tested against one with a lip ring, a small flexible lip blocker designed to be used with a drinking straw for dysphagia patients, a larger version adapted from a popular baby pacifier, and a new contender - a plastic tuba mouthpiece. Both experimenters take turns blowing as hard as they can, with cheeks fully expanded, against what is essentially a closed tube with a peak-reading digital pressure gauge attached.
