Today I’m showing my friend Orchidea my latest purchase: a special, state-of-the-art, custom-made doormat. It’s super soft, interactive, and makes sounds when you walk on it. Orchidea is curious to try it out: we start with light steps, then move on to firmer ones. We test its durability by jumping, stretching, and doing yoga on it. Every now and then it makes unique sounds, and then we discover that it also works as an alarm: if we place it by the front door, it beeps when someone walks by. It’s versatile—you can use it for walking, exercising, doing sit-ups, or simply sitting on it when there’s no chair available. We test it together, putting our combined weight on the “human mat.” Finally, we move it to the entryway, ready to welcome guests.
