Drea Exercises with the Bypass Plugs (MP4)
Our set of bypass plugs was developed to test the ability to sustain pressure while blowing air, as opposed to just developing pressure against a closed tube. Drea goes through the sequence of plugs with holes whose cross-sectional area is reduced by half each time. She is instructed to take in a full breath each time, and blow out as hard, fast, and completely as possible. This causes each successive trial to record a higher pressure and a longer time before airflow stops.
