Lily Takes the Wrong Vitamin
Lily stood in her small kitchen, staring at the bottle of vitamins on the counter. She had been feeling tired lately and wanted something to give her more energy. Without reading the label carefully, she twisted the cap open and swallowed two large pills with a glass of water.
The effect hit almost immediately.
A strange warmth spread through her body. Her skin tingled. Then she felt a sudden, powerful pressure building inside her. Her clothes began to tighten. Her feet stretched against the floorboards. She gasped as her body started expanding in every direction.
“What… what’s happening?” she whispered, looking down as her hands grew larger before her eyes.
Her height shot upward. Within seconds she was pressing against the ceiling. The drywall cracked and then shattered as her head and shoulders punched through into the apartment above. Plaster and dust rained down around her. Furniture in the upper flat was crushed under her rising shoulders. She kept growing, her legs thickening and lengthening until her feet destroyed the floor of her own apartment.
The entire building groaned. Walls split. Windows exploded outward. Lily’s body continued to swell, its way higher and higher until she tore straight through the roof. Concrete and steel beams snapped like twigs against her skin. When she finally stopped rising for a moment, she stood waist-deep in the ruined structure, the upper floors of the apartment building reduced to rubble around her hips.
She looked down at the street far below. Cars were the size of toys. People were tiny dots running in panic. A slow, delighted smile spread across her face.
Lily stepped fully out of the wreckage. Her enormous feet came down with earth-shaking crushing cars and sending people scattering. She laughed, the sound rolling across the city like thunder. She bent down, plucked a handful of screaming people between her fingers, and studied them with playful curiosity before setting them carefully on her palm. Then she flicked others aside with a careless sweep of her hand.
Buildings crumpled under her casual steps. She kicked a skyscraper and watched it topple in slow motion. She sat down in the middle of the business district, her massive body flattening entire blocks, and began playfully rearranging the tiny city like a with toys—pushing over towers, scooping up buses, and laughing as the microscopic people fled in every direction.
The city belonged to her now.
