Unnoticed on the Floor
The room is a mess, and I'm focused on tidying up. I am completely unaware of anything but the task in front of me. It's not much to do, but I move around casually, stepping over things without a second thought.
You're down there. Small, silent, and completely unnoticed on the floor.
I walk past you again and again, my flip-flops softly tapping against the ground. Each step brings my feet dangerously close, the thin sole of my sandal hovering just inches away. Sometimes I pause right beside you, shifting my weight, my foot pressing down nearby before lifting again like nothing happened.
Then it finally happens.
Without warning, I step directly on you. The soft pressure of my foot comes down through my flip-flop, pinning you beneath me for just a moment before I move again. I barely even registered what I stepped on. I keep going, still distracted, still cleaning.
And it happens again.
Unpredictable, careless steps. Sometimes quick, sometimes lingering just long enough for you to feel the full weight before I move on. My feet continue to pass over you, brushing close, occasionally pressing down, never realizing you're there beneath me.
You stay right where you are; small, overlooked, and completely at the mercy of every step I take.
