D10132 - Passive Warfare: The Displacement Engine Malfunction - 4K UHD
Officer Stephanie Bonham Carter stands tall before the board of high-ranking brass, her uniform immaculate and her posture razor-sharp as she introduces the future of combat: the Displacement Engine. The prototype, she explains with practiced confidence, is designed to vaporize enemy ordnance, a seamless tactical advantage. She activates the beta array, expecting a localized energy discharge, but the machine is temperamental. It hums with a parasitic, rhythmic pulse, and as she leans over the console to fine-tune the recalcitrant core, the engine begins to misfire in the most intimate of ways.
The displacement field is supposed to target external threats, yet it finds a far more amusing resonance with Stephanie’s own attire. Layer by layer, the engine begins to "neutralize" the target—which, to the machine's corrupted sensors, appears to be Stephanie herself. A button vanishes, then a shoulder board, then the entire jacket dissolves into shimmering air. Stephanie is so consumed by the technical adjustments that she doesn't feel the sudden, drafty loss of her professional dignity. She gestures wildly at the screen, explaining the projected success of the weapon, completely oblivious to the fact that her skirt and blouse are being systematically dismantled by the very technology she is championing.
The moment of realization is agonizingly slow. As she turns to gesture at a secondary monitor, the last of her structural support gives way, and she suddenly finds herself standing in the sterile, high-pressure boardroom with nothing but her lingerie and a mounting sense of horror. Her face flushes a deep, burning crimson as she realizes the room of stony-faced commanders is now watching her public, technological undoing. She lets out a startled, breathless gasp, her hands flying to cover her exposed skin in a frantic, desperate attempt to shield herself from the cold, unblinking gaze of her superiors. The presentation is over, the engine is a failure, and Officer Bonham Carter is left to stand amidst the wreckage of her career, trembling in the glare of total, accidental exposure.
