Karlotta is having trouble reaching her destination
Karlotta had to go to the office. She got ready and arrived a little late. She needed to get the car out of the parking space as soon as possible. She put the key in and turned it, hearing only a dull metallic whine. The engine was cold and weak. On her first attempt, it only emitted an asthmatic rattling sound. She tried again. The smell of raw gasoline filled the cabin. It was too late, and anxiety overwhelmed her. She kept trying, flooring the accelerator, searching for a spark of life. Finally, after one last desperate attempt, the engine coughed and revived with an uneven roar. Karlotta gave it no respite; she floored the accelerator, sending the tachometer needle soaring. The car roared, a deep vibration shook the chassis and seeped through the seat directly into her body. She sped out of the garage, leaving a trail of gray smoke. The battle on the asphalt. The victory was fleeting. A few blocks later, the old Fiat began to swerve. The car lurched violently and stalled. The sudden silence was deafening. "Don't do this to me now," she growled, her forehead beaded with sweat in the sun. She tried to start it again. The engine turned slowly, heavily, and weakly, increasing her tension. Each time the engine misfired, she felt a pang of panic: the possibility of being stranded, of not making it to work. The car started again, but it ran erratically. It stalled several more times along the way, each start more agonizing than the last. Breathless, her hands gripping the steering wheel, Karlotta tried to regain control so she could reach her destination.
