00276 # desperate for a cigarette
The alarm goes off, but I don’t hear it. Damn it!!! My worried coworkers are calling me. They’re already in the lobby for breakfast. We have to leave soon. I hate these group trips when I’m not the one picking the places. Screw this fancy hotel! The situation is getting out of hand. I need a smoke, for God’s sake. There are more smoke detectors in here than electrical outlets! They assured me we could smoke. Sure, right… out in the cold! Damn them. It feels like I’m in a hospital in here! I jump out of bed, rush to take a shower… and damn it! I just want a cigarette, right now! I feel like a desperate person. My breakfast always starts with a cigarette!! So I throw on a bathrobe any old way and go outside to smoke. I don’t give a damn about being late. I have to smoke right now. On this floor there’s only a shared terrace, with no roof. I don’t give that I’m half-naked and others are seeing me here in a corner puffing away like a savage. I have to smoke. It’s raining, it’s cold, it’s windy. I don’t care about the weather. It pisses me off, sure, but I have to smoke. I grab the pack of Marlboro Reds and head outside. I huddle in a corner so I don’t get too wet. I light up greedily and devour a cigarette in the worst possible situation anyone could hope for.
