After changing into a new set of clothes and putting on leg shackles, I handcuffed my hands behind my back to a lamppost by the roadside. The key was secured to the chain between the handcuffs via a timer lock; although I could touch the key at any moment, it was positioned too close to the lock—making it physically impossible to insert it into the keyhole. The only solution was to wait for the timer to run out. There is a profound sense of despair in having the key right in your hands, yet being completely unable to unlock the cuffs.
