Jeanette is stuck—she can't get out SD 720
Jeanette was calmly sorting through the dry laundry on the balcony. She folded the clothes into small stacks, carried them into the room, and returned for the next batch. She stepped out onto the balcony again and walked a few paces toward the laundry. But suddenly, her slippers stuck fast to the floor. Jeanette tried to step back, but the soles only adhered more tightly. She looked down and spotted a large, sticky puddle of glue on a tray beneath her feet—something someone had left right in the middle of the balcony. She carefully tugged at one leg. The slipper barely tore itself free from the floor before ripping apart. Jeanette tried to free her other foot, but the same thing happened. Seconds later, she was barefoot, yet her situation hadn't improved; the glue now held her feet fast. She tried pushing off the wall with her hands, but her legs wouldn't budge. Jeanette tensed and gave one leg a sharp yank. Nothing. She tried the other—to no avail. Her feet were stuck so firmly that the tray moved along with them. She took a tiny step, and the tray slid with her. She tried to turn; the tray turned too. She tried to step back; it dragged along behind her feet. It seemed she had walked right into a trap. She tried to break free again, but the sticky surface refused to let go. And for the first time, Jeanette realized: getting out of this trap on her own would be no easy task.
