Filmed entirely from the backseat perspective, this intimate clip puts you right behind Jane as she battles with her stubborn 1984 Volkswagen Polo. Dressed smartly in a pink cardigan, black skirt, and sheer nylon tights, Jane slips behind the wheel ready to leave… but the Polo has other ideas.
At first, she keeps her black high heels on – you can see the little heel pops as she turns the key again and again, coaxing the old engine to fire. The motor turns over willingly, but no matter how many times she tries, it just won’t catch. After a few more failed attempts, Jane gives up on comfort and kicks her shoes off, revealing her nylon-clad feet pressing and flexing against the pedals as she keeps trying to bring the engine to life.
Her bare nylon soles work tirelessly – pumping, feathering, pleading – while the Polo coughs, splutters, and refuses to start. The frustration builds as she makes a call to her husband, who offers little more than the classic “try pumping the pedal.” Left on her own, Jane keeps at it, determination etched into every movement until the moment she finally realises the truth: the car just isn’t going to start today.
