Stanford County Detention Center - EPISODE 3 - Disciplinary Confinement
In SCDC Episode 3, Inmate Kora Summers is locked in Disciplinary Confinement after having been caught with a contraband vape pod in her cell.
Kora has just gone through interrogation and been thoroughly cavity searched, now she is locked up in her cell to start her punishment. She will be locked in, shackled, barefoot, and without a mattress to sit on during day hours. She will be in her cell 23 hours a day, and can only be laying down when it's actually time for lights out. Otherwise she is left alone in her cell with nothing to distract her, and the constant feeling of being shackled at the ankle.
This extended cell scene begins with her being walked in and locked up. The handcuffs behind her back are taken off, but the shackles stay on, then the guard leave Kora alone with her thoughts.
We see a 30 minute long uncut shot of Kora locked up and trying to keep herself warm by hiding her arms inside her uniform scrub top.
Then a guard come to sever Kora dinner. A horrible nutritional loaf made by some sadistic chef. It's just a mash up of a bread, protein, vegetables, and absolutely minimal seasoning if any. It would probably be better if the ingredients had been left unassembled and consumed individually. As it is, it's a punishment just to consume. This will be all she get's to eat for the duration of her stay in this unit.
After Kora picks at her food and tries to eat as much as she can stand, she puts the tray up on the pass through and lays down to wait for lights out. She is reprimanded by the guard for laying down outside of lights out time, but then the guard gives her a blue plastic mattress to rest on for the night. The lights go out soon after, and the camera lingers for another long take focused on the soles of the inmate's feet while she rests in the cell.
In the morning those soles will face a cane during the final segment of this series where Kora will receive her first prison Bastinado session.
