One mistake, one frozen hand ( 2 PART )
Alba arrives at a sterile top-floor office, desperately hoping the job will save her from debt and eviction. Instead of Valerie, she meets Stella, an elegant woman on metal crutches, who announces that the interview will test her ability to remain calm under extreme pressure.
Stella straps Alba’s wrist to the glass desk and activates a cryosurgical pen near the steel buckle. Alba must ignite a lighter ten consecutive times; one mistake, Stella warns, and the freezing stream will cause permanent necrosis.
As frost spreads across the leather and her hand becomes pale and numb, Alba struggles through each attempt. On the ninth strike, her trembling thumb slips, but she desperately tries again before Stella pulls the trigger.
The tenth flame finally appears, and Stella releases her. She then reveals that her predecessor once gave her the same test—and she failed. Alba has earned the job, but her first duty will be administering the interview to the next candidate.
