It was a routine outdoor self-bondage session, though I was wearing a pair of jeans and canvas sneakers I hadn't worn in a long time. At first, I simply handcuffed myself behind my back to a lamppost; after turning around a few times and squatting down, I easily retrieved the key. Then, without a moment's hesitation, I raised my hands over my head and handcuffed myself to the pole from behind. This position proved much more difficult; while kneeling on the ground, I couldn't reach the key with my hands—the only way to unlock myself was to lie down on the ground.
